You may have heard of IPL but are unsure what it means. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light which is used to help address a variety of skin issues. It can be used as a treatment for sun damage and to deal with those annoying first signs of ageing. In addition, it can also be an option in the treatment of thread veins and other conditions, so chat to our team of experts at Karma House about any concerns that you have.
IPL in Aylesbury – what is it?
Before you begin treatment with IPL, you need to understand how it works. The wavelengths from the light can help to deal with pigmented and vascular lesions. It is suitable for use on the hands, neck and chest as well as the face. The skin should become smoother, more youthful-looking and will have a more even tone.
So how long does it take? There is no one answer to this question as it depends on the individual and the problem which is being treated. As a rough average, most appointments are made for 30 minutes. However, you must have a free consultation and patch test prior to any IPL treatment being carried out with one of our experienced practitioners. This will give the opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have and for your practitioner to explain in detail how the treatment works and to make sure that you are suitable for treatment. Although rare, a small patch test will be given during the consultation to check that you don’t have any adverse reactions to the IPL.
IPL in Aylesbury – what type of aftercare is needed?
Once the IPL treatment has been completed, you may notice that the skin is a little red but this is perfectly normal. After a few hours the redness will begin to subside. If a pigmented area is being treated, you may notice it is slightly darker for a few days. One of our tips is to use Aloe Vera to keep the skin cool and we will apply this while you are at the Clinic.
The level of risk associated with this type of treatment varies and will depend a great deal on the individual being treated. Potential risks will be pointed out during your initial consultation where we can also put your mind at rest. Our experts are trained to ensure your safety at all times but if you have any concerns we are happy to discuss them with you.
Caring for your skin following the treatment will include not exposing it to the sun and if you do have to be outside then you should always apply a high factor sunscreen. We will also advise you to avoid perfumed skin products on the affected areas for at least 24 hours after the treatment; however mineral make up can be used over the area if desired. Another tip is to keep your Aloe Vera in the fridge to maximise its cooling properties so you really feel the benefit.
